100^th Anniversary Tour de France

Are you a prayer warrior?  Come join us (Doc and Carol Krebs), July 6-18, 2013, as we lead intercessors on a short-term mission to reach France for Christ.

Orientation – Thursday, February 21, 7:00 p.m. Room 202 – Life Center, Spokane, Washington.

The Tour De France is an intense sporting event that spreads across the country and is followed worldwide.   Fifteen million people are expected to attend this 100^th anniversary of the race—an iconic event in French history.   Our team of intercessors will pray in two to three large French cities during the Tour.  We’ll also partner with French churches in outreach activities in these locations.  Afterwards, we hope to spend a couple of days with David and Jennifer Williamson, workers in France from Life Center.
We will be working with Greater Europe Mission’s national and international partners, striving for a long-term spiritual impact.  The tour itself is not the goal.  This is an opportunity to leverage a major cultural event to impact a country in multiple locations and in multiple ways.

Short-term mission dates:  July 6-15, 2013.  Plus an additional 2 days with David and Jennifer Williamson in Loches (details being worked out).

Tentative schedule:

July 5 - Depart Spokane – Arrive in Paris morning of July 6
July 6 – Orientation in Paris
July 7 – Paris sight-seeing
July 8-14 - Seven days of ministry
July 15-16 - Visit Williamsons in Loches
July 17 – Travel to Paris, stay at hotel near airport
July 18 - Fly home from Paris

Cost:  Estimated at $ 3500 per person, including International airfare, GEM ministry trip, Paris sightseeing, Loches trip, and souvenirs.

Dreams Come True

Who was this young girl?  She danced with a broom and sang as she swept the patio, imagining herself as Cinderella, taken far away by some handsome prince.  Sometimes she’d stand on the top of the shed, pretending to be one of Tevye’s blessed daughters as she sang “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” from Fiddler on the Roof. She was certain that God would bring her the perfect match.

As a high school sophomore, she dreamt of someday traveling to France.  Having grown older and wiser, she swiftly discounted such a thought; this country girl had traveled only a few miles from home.

Over four decades later, in the fall of 2011, this dreamer and her husband traveled to Europe.  They’ve been working with the Lord ever since to build a team of ministry partners so they can live permanently in France as long-term workers with Greater Europe Mission (GEM).

Of course Doc and I are the dreamers.  Just recently, God has confirmed that He wants us to go to France again, not to move permanently yet, but to participate in a GEM outreach during the 100^th Anniversary of the Tour de France.

Between mid-June and the end of July, 2013, an estimated 15 million people will visit France to see this iconic race.  We are now preparing to lead one or two teams of prayer warriors for GEM’s strategic outreach.

You see, we’ve come to realize that God is carrying out His vision in France. We get to be a small part of that.  Mission experts view this affluent, secular nation as a gateway to the world.

After many years of supporting missionaries financially, we find ourselves in an astounding position. In May 2011, the Lord revealed His plan to place us on a foreign mission field.

 

Though we've worked hard to prepare for this amazing change in our lives, it sometimes still feels like a dream. Maybe that's why I'm drawn to this picture of the Eiffel Tower at night. It's dreamy.

 

But wait.  I'm awake. I remember, and Doc corroborates the story. We were invited by workers in France to come to intercede for them. We laughed, then remembered Sarah (aka Mrs. Abraham). Then we read Radical by David Platt, and Why Pray? by John DeVries. We actually traveled to France in October-November 2011, visiting fellow missionaries and praying with them. We spent hours on the application process for Greater Europe Mission.  We attended their week-long orientation, and they appointed and commissioned us on February 24, 2012.

 

We sold our home in May, 2012, along with two-thirds of our possessions. We packed the last third into a storage unit, with France in mind. We moved into a spacious, beautifully furnished daylight basement. We've attended online classes about missions, and "skyped" with our colleagues on the field and still in the U.S. We're scheduling appointments with prospective prayer and financial partners, sharing the vision God has given us for His work in France.

 

Yes.  That's what it is.  Not a dream, but a vision.  "Without a vision, the people perish."
